Season 1 2011

Hi all,

The first season of 2011 starts Feb 8th. The following 12 teams have been confirmed and registered:

Sharks
Brothers
Nuts
Sea Snakes
Planktons
Crabs
Pink Pirates
Swordfish
Ducks
Frank & Beans
Nullabor
Lobsters (team for new members)

Details regarding the water basketball Organisation, Team logos and captains, Referees and Board Members can be found on this website. Please also take the time to review the Rules and Regulations.

The roster has been created accordingly by John and the first 3 rounds are available on the Roster page. John has carefully worked it out so that over the first 11 rounds everyone plays each other once and the roster is fair with regard to duty and playing times. Due to the fact that most teams prefer playing Thursday nights, John has had to schedule all teams to play their equal share of Tuesday games over the whole 11 weeks. Since things tend to change a bit in the first few rounds, the rest of the roster will be made available in a few weeks.

Dave has scheduled umpires for those first 3 rounds as well. Peter Walker and Dean Harris have stopped umpiring due to other commitments and Kath Fry has agreed to take on the umpiring role as well as her Board role for this season. A full list of confirmed umpires is available on the Referees page. Hopefully all umpiring can be scheduled equally, but with the 2 separate game nights and the fact that no umpires have been provided by the bottom teams there may be some nights where we may only have 1 umpire available for a game or Board members need to do double umpiring duty. We’ll see, fingers crossed.

We’ve planned as well as we could, all things considered, so hopefully everyone can try and make this season another success. Good luck to all teams!

About Water Basketball Tasmania
Water Basketball is a sport developed by The Hobart Aquatic Centre. It involves two teams of 6 players, who pass the ball down the pool to their goal end, which is a hoop similar to basketball. Each player wears flippers (and a cap to identify which team they are playing for). Goals are scored as two or three points depending how far from the goals you are.
