Rule Highlight
Many players/teams start each quarter as if taking a free throw, where you are allowed to swim (on) or pass from the spot of infringement. Note however, as detailed under Section 9.6 of the Regulations, that “a player of the team in possession must release or throw the ball from the centre point” when starting each quarter.

In other words, even though many of us do, if you’re the one starting with the ball you are not allowed to swim with it but must pass first, much like the start of a soccer game. The rule has always existed, but never really enforced. For the sake of clarity though, as game starts is not always clear to all involved, please pass first at the start of each quarter.

About Water Basketball Tasmania
Water Basketball is a sport developed by The Hobart Aquatic Centre. It involves two teams of 6 players, who pass the ball down the pool to their goal end, which is a hoop similar to basketball. Each player wears flippers (and a cap to identify which team they are playing for). Goals are scored as two or three points depending how far from the goals you are.
