Rule Highlight
Fill-in rules have gradually expanded over the years and are, although not quite as stimulating as a good novel, worth a read, as they can be the difference between winning and losing a game. For example, as outlined in Section 6.4.1 of the Regulations, “During the remainder of the season (after the first 3 games) Fill-in players are allowed to shoot for goal but their score will not count towards the team’s total points. Determining this is the scoring Duty member’s responsibility. The referee will indicate the score and the Duty member will ensure the scores are noted in the fill-in section on the scoring sheet.“.

This is further emphasised on every score sheet, with the fill-in section header: “Fill-Ins- Do Not Receive BEST & FAIREST or GOAL POINTS“. It is the team captain’s responsibility to ensure that the fill-in players are indeed listed in the fill-in section.

So obviously, it’s best to keep well-intended fill-in players mainly in your defensive half, where they can be of the most benefit.

About Water Basketball Tasmania
Water Basketball is a sport developed by The Hobart Aquatic Centre. It involves two teams of 6 players, who pass the ball down the pool to their goal end, which is a hoop similar to basketball. Each player wears flippers (and a cap to identify which team they are playing for). Goals are scored as two or three points depending how far from the goals you are.
