2012

As discussed during the Svensen Cup Award night, the plan for 2012 is to have a season structure similar to that of 2011, with 2 regular seasons, inter-spaced by a short mixed social competition. The first regular season of 2012 will start on 16 February, preceded by 2 scratch match/come-and-try type nights, on 2 and 9 February, for those wanting to get back into it and new players to have a try.

The number of rounds and exact dates for each season will be determined closer to February, when we have a good idea of participating teams. The aim is to extend the current 7 teams by at least 1 (2×2 games on the Thursday night) or possibly 2 (2×2 games and 1 bye) and focus on consolidating team player numbers to reduce forfeits and avoid teams dropping out during the season. It would be much appreciated if team captains could update their existing team registration sheet (template available here) as soon as they’ve got a good idea of player commitment and send that to Kyle Spooner for registration.

New players wishing to join or those that dropped out of the competition and wishing to get back into it, please either contact a team captain directly if you want to join a specific team, or contact Dave van ‘t Veld to discuss how to join or set up a new team.

Lastly, Peter Gardiner announced his resignation from the Water Basketball Chairman position (while remaining on the board) and that this role will be taken on by Dave van ‘t Veld as of 2012. This will result in some further board member role changes, which will be announced closer to the start of the new season. On behalf of the water basketball organisation and I’m sure all waterbasketballers, I’d like to thank Peter for all the hard work he’s put into the role over the last 5 years, much of which taking place behind the scenes, and his ongoing enthusiasm for the sport.

Have a relaxed break with a great Christmas and we hope to see you again during a healthy and happy 2012!

Thanks,
Dave

About Water Basketball Tasmania
Water Basketball is a sport developed by The Hobart Aquatic Centre. It involves two teams of 6 players, who pass the ball down the pool to their goal end, which is a hoop similar to basketball. Each player wears flippers (and a cap to identify which team they are playing for). Goals are scored as two or three points depending how far from the goals you are.
