Another great season; congratulations to the Division winners and to those receiving individual awards!

As mentioned last night, thanks again to all umpires for making their time and thick skin 🙂 available, as well as all those players taking their duty responsibilities seriously. Your efforts are much appreciated, since the water basketball program wouldn’t work without you.

Thanks also to the Aquatic Centre for assisting with new boards (thank you Craig for putting them together), bin, score boards and once again putting on a great spread last night for the awards.

Social Competition Outline

The Social Competition will start at 7:30pm next week on the 21st of June. Please make sure you’re poolside by 7:30pm, to find out which team you’re in. The competition will run for 4 weeks and on the Saturday of that 4th week (14/7) the teams will be playing finals followed by a BBQ at the Aquatic Centre.

On each game night, each team will play two games of two 12 minute halves each. This means slightly shorter games, but with 2 games total to a bit more game time bang for your buck on the night. We’re also trialling playing without the 2 meter line (and therefore not limiting players inside the 2 meter area), which should also make it a bit easier for new players.

Peter Gardiner is coordinating the Social Competition this year and has been collating all registrations (If you haven’t registered yet, email peter.gardiner@education.tas.gov.au or use the enquiry form on this website.

Teams will be made up with players mixed relatively randomly, but consideration will be given to those traveling together to be put in the same team so do make mention of that if that’s the case. We usually know this already so will try and accommodate this in any case. If you haven’t registered by next week, simply turn up at 7:3pm and Peter will add your name to a team that needs players.

See you next week!

About Water Basketball Tasmania
Water Basketball is a sport developed by The Hobart Aquatic Centre. It involves two teams of 6 players, who pass the ball down the pool to their goal end, which is a hoop similar to basketball. Each player wears flippers (and a cap to identify which team they are playing for). Goals are scored as two or three points depending how far from the goals you are.
