Congratulations to Division Premiers The Nuts (Div 1) and Pink Pirates (Div 2), as well as to the winners of Individual Awards in the category Best & Fairest, Sophie Leitch-Anderson and Jason Squibb and in the new category Most Improved Player, Julie Verdouw and Ron Petrusma. The Most Improved Player award replaces the Sportsmanship award, which always had a large overlap with Best & Fairest. The award remains a selection by the Board and is determined by looking at impact on the game, consistency & technique during the season. The complete Best & Fairest list (of those who received points) has now been updated in the Stats section for this season.

The contributions of duty teams and umpires were once more recognised and the continuing need for consistent enforcement of rules and balanced spread of umpires over all teams emphasised. The achievements of this season’s top scorers, Jo Burke (236) and Tony (343) were also highlighted and a big thank you went out to Sylvester for his continuing efforts in setting up the equipment each week, to Craig for his maintenance of the baskets and boards, Andrew for providing us with game highlights on Facebook all season, all Captains for keeping their teams organised, the Board for keeping the competition running smoothly, THAC for providing us with the equipment and the opportunity to play and lastly Jose, for once again providing us with a great spread of nibbles & drinks last night.

The planning for the remainder of the year has not changed, which brings us to a reminder of the upcoming Social Competition, which will run on Thursday 27/6, 4/7, 11/7 and 18/7 from 7:30pm. Finals & a BBQ will be held on Saturday 20/7 from 11:00am. As mentioned before, registrations go to Phillip Wells or can be submitted via the contact form on this website. Please get there early at around 7 the first night, when you’ll be assigned to your team. This year’s set-up is like last year, with every team playing 2 games on the night, 2 x 10 min each.

About Water Basketball Tasmania
Water Basketball is a sport developed by The Hobart Aquatic Centre. It involves two teams of 6 players, who pass the ball down the pool to their goal end, which is a hoop similar to basketball. Each player wears flippers (and a cap to identify which team they are playing for). Goals are scored as two or three points depending how far from the goals you are.
