2013 Social Competition Finals

Due to the school holidays, pesky winter bugs, work commitments and various other reasons, around 10-12 players couldn’t make it to this year’s Social Competition Finals Saturday. Undeterred, Peter whipped up a Ladies vs Gentlemen’s game to get the enthusiastic water basketballers started, followed by a 3 team tournament featuring around 22 players.

Sylwester had of course made sure that everything was ready to go, so without much doubt as to who played in what team, the seven Ladies squared off against six Gentlemen. A lively contest followed, which was a lot of fun, and then onto the tournament. After sorting out the somewhat less obvious sides, each team played 2 games after which the top two teams went at it once more for the ultimate prize! While the glory may be eternal, the winning team shall however forever remain anonymous. All we know is that they wore blue caps and swam off into the sunset when the job was done… đŸ˜‰

So, at the end of the day everyone was a winner, with prizes and lovely food provided free of charge by THAC. Thanks to the staff at THAC and all players involved in the Social Competition for once again making it a relaxed and enjoyable event!

A final reminder for those playing in the 2013 2nd regular competition. This week we’re having a break and we’ll be playing Round 1 on the 1st of August (time flies!). We’re aiming to have the roster out by the end of the upcoming weekend, so check the website (or better yet, subscribe for notifications). Since we’ll have 8 teams again, you can count on playing on August 1.

While the teams are known, please make sure that you also let your captain know that you’re playing, as team sheets are due on 26/7 (earlier would be handy).

Hope you have a nice break and see you in Round 1!

About Water Basketball Tasmania
Water Basketball is a sport developed by The Hobart Aquatic Centre. It involves two teams of 6 players, who pass the ball down the pool to their goal end, which is a hoop similar to basketball. Each player wears flippers (and a cap to identify which team they are playing for). Goals are scored as two or three points depending how far from the goals you are.
