Plankton 2013 S2 Div 1 winners (not entire team)

Congratulations to Division Premiers Plankton (Div 1) and The Nuts (Div 2), as well as to the winners of Individual Awards in the category Best & Fairest Female, a tie between Sophie Leitch-Anderson and Michelle Kern and Best & Fairest Male Wes Arthur. The complete Best & Fairest list (of those who received points) has now been updated in the Stats section for this season. The Most Improved Player awards were awarded to Emma Thompson and Cole Dabner for very promising starts of their water basketball careers.

The contributions of duty teams and umpires were once more recognised and the continuing need for consistent enforcement of rules and balanced spread of umpires over all teams emphasised, especially now that the teams have become more evenly matched. Further efforts will be made in 2014 to engage all umpires for training and aligning interpretations. The achievements of this season’s top scorers, Jo Burke (134) and Tony (260) were also highlighted and a big thank you went out to Sylvester for his continuing efforts in setting up the equipment each week, to Craig for his maintenance of the baskets and boards, Andrew for providing us with game highlights on Facebook all season, all Captains for keeping their teams organised, the Board for keeping the competition running smoothly, THAC for providing us with the equipment and the opportunity to play and lastly Jose, for once again providing us with a great spread of nibbles & drinks last night.

The planning for 2014 has not been finalised yet, but will be very similar to 2013. Still with two main seasons and a break in between, but a modified Social Competition is being considered that could feature a single day tournament or a Thursday and a Saturday or Sunday. The Board is also considering having more than one Come & Try night, leading up to the first season. These are all still ideas and feedback (via email or website) on this from members, as well as on the length of the break in between seasons, would be greatly appreciated.

To assist in planning, it would also be very useful if the Captains could indicate as early as possible whether their team will continue to play next season. Similarly, the sooner umpires can confirm whether they intend to continue umpiring next season, or for any potential new umpires from teams that currently provide none to get in touch, the better.

Thank you all for another great season, hope to see you in the pool again in 2014, and have a great Christmas & New Year!

About Water Basketball Tasmania
Water Basketball is a sport developed by The Hobart Aquatic Centre. It involves two teams of 6 players, who pass the ball down the pool to their goal end, which is a hoop similar to basketball. Each player wears flippers (and a cap to identify which team they are playing for). Goals are scored as two or three points depending how far from the goals you are.
