Rule Highlight of the Week

This week, we’re looking at 3 rules that are all not major infractions and therefore not always enforced by the umpires. Many players still fail to do the following correctly and since it’s easy to avoid, please assist by following these rules and enabling the umpires to focus fully on the more important aspects of the game.

  1. All substitutions (and late entries during game time) must be made from the interchange area through the centre/halfway line (S.5).
  2. To start the game, the player from the team that starts with the ball should pass the ball from centre point, to another player on their half, before (any) players may cross the centre line (S.9 & S.15.1)
  3. Players are not allowed to push off the pool walls or stand on the base line ledge during game time (S.15.3), unless that player is injured or ill (S.15.3.1).

About Water Basketball Tasmania
Water Basketball is a sport developed by The Hobart Aquatic Centre. It involves two teams of 6 players, who pass the ball down the pool to their goal end, which is a hoop similar to basketball. Each player wears flippers (and a cap to identify which team they are playing for). Goals are scored as two or three points depending how far from the goals you are.
