Rule Highlight of the Week

4 out of the 8 teams entered their fill-ins incorrectly on the score sheet last night, so a reminder seems appropriate. This did not affect the team scores & outcome of games, but some fill-ins did miss out on top scoring stats and Best & Fairest points. Fill-ins must be written into the Fill-Ins section (see the score sheet example on the Regulations page of the website for details) and not written into the main players list.

If you would like to add a player to your team, please submit an updated team sheet to Kath and myself a day before game night. If the player is just a fill-in, that’s fine and their name will just need to go into the fill-in part of the sheet. See the fill-in section of the Regulations for full details on this and other parts of having fill-ins; such as that unregistered fill-ins can play 3 times with your team until they have to register with your team and that unregistered fill-ins may score (which counts towards the team score), but are not eligible for top-scoring or Best & Fairest stats.

Like last season, Sylvester will again be playing a few games with each team; chosen randomly but feel free to swap with other teams where preferred. Just make sure both teams and Sylvie are fully aware of this. A specific roster will be distributed to all captains and Sylvie shortly. As before, Sylvie plays a wildcard position and can be subbed in for male and female players. His scores count toward the team score as a fill-in throughout the entire season, but unfortunately in this format we cannot include him in the top scoring stats. However, although we’ll need to record this manually, we will be keeping track of Sylvie’s Best & Fairest points this season, so umpires can feel free to award him points even though he’s listed in the Fill-in section.

About Water Basketball Tasmania
Water Basketball is a sport developed by The Hobart Aquatic Centre. It involves two teams of 6 players, who pass the ball down the pool to their goal end, which is a hoop similar to basketball. Each player wears flippers (and a cap to identify which team they are playing for). Goals are scored as two or three points depending how far from the goals you are.
