The contributions of duty teams and umpires were once more recognised and a big thank you went out to Sylvester for his continuing efforts in setting up the equipment each week and Andrew for providing us with game highlights on Facebook all season. We were fortunate again this season to have 8 (reasonably) solid teams with a thank you to all Captains for keeping their teams organised and engaged, the Board for their work behinds the scenes and THAC for providing us with the equipment, the opportunity to play and for once again providing us with a great spread of nibbles & drinks last night.

The contributions of retiring Board Members Kath and Phil were recognised and we thank them both for their efforts in keeping the Water Basketball program running smoothly. We wish them all the best for the future and hope to see them return to the game some day!

It’s now time for the Summer break, with the likely start date of the first season of 2016 to be the Come & Try night on February 4th followed by Round 1 on the 11th. The 2016 program will likely be quite similar to that of 2015, pending mid-December advise from THAC regarding their review of all programs (such as Water Basketball, Underwater Hockey, Fin Swimming, Masters, etc). We will try and make the Social Roster more attractive for a broader range of players and are thinking about combining the 2 Grand Final nights into 1 single night out (e.g. the Saturday following the last GF) at a venue where we can do the presentations, some nibbles/drinks, music, etc. with the aim to make the night more social, involve all teams and go out with a bang. Feedback from all teams, through their Captains, will be sought on all this as well as further suggestions, prior to next season.

Leading up to 4 and 11 Feb, new/interested players are encouraged to send us an email with your inquiry through our enquiry form. As mentioned, there will be a Come & Try night, which always proves valuable in getting a feel for what it’s like to play Water Basketball.

To assist in planning, it would also be very useful if the Captains could indicate as early as possible whether their team will continue to play next year. Similarly, the sooner umpires can confirm with John whether they intend to continue umpiring next season the better. Closer to the start (5 Feb at the latest) Captains should submit their team sheets to me, so we can get the stats and scoresheets side of things organised.

Thank you all for another great season and have a great Christmas & New Year 🙂 !

About Water Basketball Tasmania
Water Basketball is a sport developed by The Hobart Aquatic Centre. It involves two teams of 6 players, who pass the ball down the pool to their goal end, which is a hoop similar to basketball. Each player wears flippers (and a cap to identify which team they are playing for). Goals are scored as two or three points depending how far from the goals you are.
